Starfish Jewelry

One morning, an old man was walking along the beach when he noticed thousands of starfish that had washed ashore with the tide. Ahead, he saw a young boy picking them up one by one and tossing them back into the ocean.

The man approached and asked, “Why are you spending so much energy on this? There are miles of beach and countless starfish. You can’t possibly save them all. What difference could it make?”

The boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it into the sea. Smiling, he replied, “It made a difference to that one.”

The old man paused, then leaned down, picked up a starfish himself, and joined the boy in returning them to the ocean.
